A short film made for FCBStudios exploring modelmaking as a craft, a tool for design and a means of communication.

As ‘Stephenson / Bishop‘, Jim Stephenson and I made a film for wayfinding and graphic design specialists Holmes Wood.

This film explains their philosophy when designing wayfinding for a building – the idea that a visitor to a space be made to feel ‘Comfortably Lost’.

For their 70th birthday, international architecture firm Benoy commissioned Stephenson / Bishop to film 15 of their key projects in Europe, Asia and the Middle East over a 6 week period. In addition to the 15 Building Study films, individual clips were also embedded into their new website, making the footage integral to their rebrand. You can see how this works here.

Under the moniker ‘Stephenson / Bishop‘, Jim Stephenson and I make films about design, architecture and the built environment. This was a study we made of the King’s Cross development for The Developer.

A film about user experience in the new realm of public / private land and those that are using the space.

As ‘Stephenson / Bishop‘, Jim Stephenson and I were comissioned to make a film for EPR Architects, documenting their project at 24 Saville Row in collaboration with ceramicist Kate Malone MBE.

EPR Architects describe it as ” a tribute to Savile Row’s tailoring heritage, clad in 10,000 hand glazed ceramic tiles and positioned on a decorative sand-cast bronze plinth.”

Between July and August 2018 Brighton gallery Fabrica hosted ‘Getting There‘, an installation by artist Jo Lathwood. Getting There was an architectural exploration of making a journey in one spot.

Lathwood said “It is conceived as a large, rising, pathway that compels the curious visitor to follow it through the exhibition hall and up into the roof area with the promise of touching the ceiling.” Over the course of 6 weeks visitors to the gallery could see the installation being built, then were able to walk on it and finally see it being deconstructed.

This film was made to accompany the exhibition and was shown inside the gallery. Photos of the installation are here.

Jim Stephenson and I make occasional, short, 2 minute mini-documentaries on people in the creative industries that we find inspiring.

In this film we visited legendary graphic designer Anthony Burrill at his studio and asked him about his work and creative process.

Filmmaker Al Compton and I travelled to Iceland in July 2016 to make a series of short documentaries for Hálendið (The Highland Project), to help persuade the Icelandic government to turn the highland into a national park, to be owned by the Icelandic nation as a whole, stoping the spread of industrialisation across the last wilderness in Europe.

We shot interviews with eight different people involved with The Highland Project over 10 days across the highland. Images from the project are here.

Kate Moross is an artist working in the music industry, creating identities, album artwork and design for artists like Sam Smith, Jessie Ware and Simian Mobile Disco.

When Ben Watt returned to the studio in 2014 to record his first solo album in 30 years, he asked me to document the process.

Filmed just before the release of the award-winning album ‘Hendra’, this documentary is the inside story into the making of the album. It includes previously unseen live footage and interviews with Bernard Butler, David Gilmour and Ewan Pearson.

Flowers and Sea Creatures are a Canadian electronic band signed to Buzzin’ Fly Records.

To accompany the release of their debut album I was commissioned to travel to Montreal and spend a week with the band, making a short documentary to accompany the launch of their album.

In 2018 I shot the music video for Tracey Thorn’s single ‘Sister’, taken off her latest album ‘Record‘.

We were looking for a distinct location with a strong look to shoot in that mirrored the lives of the women in the video’s narrative. Filming took place in Lulot Gardens, part of the iconic Whittington Estate, designed by Peter Tabouri in the Brutalist style the mid 1970’s.

David Gilmour appeared as a guest on Ben Watt‘s last album ‘Hendra’ .
